It was a “felt call” that drew Canon Percia Hutcherson to the Rift Valley in East Africa more than two decades ago and ultimately led to the establishment of Changing Lives International, Incorporated (CLI).
Serving as a physical therapist for over 50 years and providing over 45,000 treatments, Hutcherson launched CLI to continue her work caring for persons with disabilities. That work began in 1990 when she was invited to Kenya by the late Anglican Bishop Muge to serve as a missionary to the Diocese of Eldoret. With the help of the diocese staff, Percia implemented a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) approach and constructed the North Rift Rehabilitation Centre (NORIREC) where more than 2,000 people have received treatment, surgery or referral services because of her help.
Today the program continues with six clinics throughout the year, a biannual retreat for mothers and children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus, surgery support, field visits and daily physiotherapy, especially for children with Cerebral Palsy.
